WHAT IS
THE UPKILI®
CLIMB FOR BREAST CANCER
ALL ABOUT?
This is a climb of Mt. Kilimanjaro, conceived by Breast Cancer survivor,
Amy Micks. The climb is a major fundraising initiative in support of
Breast Cancer Research. Those joining our climb raise funds by climbing
19,340 feet to the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania, Africa.
WHERE DO THE FUNDS
RAISED BY THE EVENT GO?
100% of all money raised by each climber goes directly to a Breast Cancer
Foundation/Organization that:
-
Works
collaboratively to fund, support and advocate for Relevant and
innovative research.
-
Conducts meaningful
education and awareness programs.
-
Promotes early
diagnosis and effective treatment.
-
Supports a
positive quality of life for those living with breast cancer.

HOW DOES THE
FUNDRAISING PART OF THE CLIMB WORK?
Each climber is encouraged to raise a minimum of $500 towards their
respective foundation. This is made easier with each climber having
their own on donation page directly linked to the foundation. This
way anyone can donate on behalf of the climber with ease.

PAY FOR THE COST OF MY CLIMB?
Absolutely not! Each climber is expected to cover the costs of their own
airfare and climb.

of determination and a strong will can join the team.
DO I HAVE TO BE A BREAST CANCER SURVIVOR TO JOIN THE CLIMB?
Anyone with a
desire to help put an end to Breast Cancer can join our team.
WHAT KIND OF EXPERIENCE DO THE PARTICIPANTS NEED?
This is not a technical climb but a tough trek to high altitude.
Once registered, all climbers will be given assistance with their
training.
HOW HARD IS IT TO CLIMB KILIMANJARO?
Most people when asked this question say it is the hardest thing they have
done in their life. However thirty-three thousand people a year climb
Kilimanjaro. If you are fit, in good health and train hard you will have
a more successful and enjoyable experience exploring this majestic
mountain.
WHAT IS The History of THE UPKILI®
CLIMB?
A lover of the outdoors from an early age Amy grew up spending summers in
northern Ontario. Whether it was family cottage time or summer camps she
found she felt most like herself surrounded by nature hiking, biking,
paddling skiing or climbing. At the age of thirty-two Amy was diagnosed
with Breast Cancer. A year of treatment put her outdoor pursuits on held
but four years after her diagnosis and hungry for her next outdoor
challenge Amy climbed Kilimanjaro for the first time. This began a love
affair that she has now chosen to share with others. Amy has now climbed
Kilimanjaro twelve times. She spends her winters guiding and providing
medical support on Kilimanjaro, summers guiding in the Altai Tavn Bogd
Mountains in Western Mongolia and the fall and spring mountain biking,
paddling and hiking in the Sierra Nevada Mountains.
